That is why, to help you clarify that doubt you have, this time we will tell you what the checkmarks in WhatsApp and Telegram messages mean. So we recommend you stay until the end to discover much more.

Checkmarks on Telegram and WhatsApp

WhatsApp and Telegram offer free unlimited messaging, practical features, and versions of their application for all devices. There are definitely many reasons to love these services, but not everyone has mastered their use.

In fact, a confusing aspect of WhatsApp and Telegram is the checkmarks.

When you send a message on WhatsApp or Telegram, one or two checkmarks appear underneath, which then change from gray to blue. These checkmarks give you useful information about the sending and receiving of your messages.

What do the checkmarks mean in WhatsApp?

Verification icons on WhatsApp mean a kind of read receipt, letting you know if the person on the other side of the conversation has received or read your message. A single gray checkmark means that your message was sent, but has not yet been delivered to the other person. Two gray marks mean that your message successfully reached the other person’s phone, but they haven’t seen it yet.

Finally, two blue check marks will appear when the other person has opened your discussion and seen the message. However, this works a little differently in WhatsApp group chats, as when all members of the group have received your message, you will see a double gray check next to it. After everyone has read the message, it changes to two blue marks.

What do the Telegram checkmarks mean?

Basically, Telegram checkmarks also let you know if a message was read, but they work a little differently than WhatsApp. In Telegram, you will see a clock icon when the application sends your message, if you are successful, this becomes a single checkmark to indicate that the message was successfully sent to the server. Two checkmarks mean that the other person opened your conversation and saw the new message.

The biggest difference between the controls of both platforms is that Telegram does not have a delivery status. This is due to the ability to use your Telegram account on several devices at the same time, compared to WhatsApp which only works on one phone, due to its end-to-end encryption.

Because of this, there is no way for Telegram to know if your message reached a particular device.

In Telegram group chats, a single check still means that your message was sent to the server, a double check in a group chat means that at least one person read your message. But you should know that the app does not keep track of who the group member who read it. Unfortunately, there is no way to disable read receipts on Telegram, so everyone will always know if your message was read.
