A ‘day in the life’ of all four of The Beatles members will be shown on the big screen. Sam Mendes, an Oscar-winning director, is poised to direct four different feature-length biopics documenting the Beatles’ tale from the perspective of each of its members: Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, the late John Lennon, and George Harrison.
Sony Pictures Entertainment said on Tuesday that the films will be portrayed from each band member’s perspective and “intersect to tell the astonishing story of the greatest band in history.”
Each film will have its own theatrical premiere in 2027, with precise dates to be released closer to its launch.
“Did you hear the news? Oh, boy. We all support the Sam Mendes film project. Yes, indeed. “Peace and love,” Starr said on his X page on Tuesday.According to the statement, the “American Beauty” filmmaker will have full access to the Beatles’ personal stories and music.
“I’m honoured to be telling the story of the greatest rock band of all time, and excited to challenge the notion of what constitutes a trip to the movies,” Mendes stated in an e-mail.
According to Sony Pictures Entertainment CEO Tom Rothman, viewing these films in a traditional theatre environment will be an essential part of the experience, “rocking audiences all over the globe.”
The statement did not provide casting details, but the revelation is expected to spark speculation about who would play each Beatle’s prized position.
The Beatles are one of history’s most important bands, with its origins dating back to the late 1950s, when McCartney and Lennon formed the Quarrymen.
With Harrison and Starr on board under the band’s current moniker, the Beatles released their debut song “Love Me Do” in 1962. By 1964, “Beatlemania” was in full swing when the four Brits arrived in America for their now-historic appearance on the “Ed Sullivan Show,” and the rest is history.
They issued their final album as a band, “Let It Be,” in 1970, before splitting up to pursue individual careers. The “last” Beatles song “Now & Then” was released in 2023.
